Opposites Attract

Once upon a time, there was a typical Asian girl who had done the things that typical Asian girls do – graduated from Cal, drove a Honda Accord (and has never gotten a moving violation, haha), spent little and saved a lot and didn’t do anything too risky or adventurous.Β  One day she met a not so typical Asian guy who hadn’t finished college yet, drove a sports car (and had many moving violations and was once even chased by the cops for speeding!), was definitely a spender and loved to take risks.Β  And of course she loved how different this guy was from her (and vice versa) and they fell in love and got married and lived happily ever after.

Okay, that’s the Hollywood version of the story.Β  πŸ™‚Β  Chick flicks conveniently end the movie right before the part where the guy drives the girl crazy when he leaves his socks lying under the dining table…and that this still happens even after years of the girl reminding the guy about where his “lost” socks should go.Β Β

You would think that after 10 years of marriage, hubby and I wouldn’t be so surprised at how different we are.Β  Lately though we’ve really been rubbing each other the wrong way, but I think a lot of it is my fault cause I’ve been extra anal about cleaning the house/keeping it clean for relatives who are visiting (his relatives I might add!).Β  But we have come to a point where we don’t drive one another as crazy as we used to and can poke fun at each other now instead of putting on our boxing gloves. Β

It’s so true that opposites attract.Β  But I really wouldn’t want to have it any other way.Β  I mean, can I picture myself being married to someone like me?Β  That would make for a very boring movie…one called Square and Squarer.Β  πŸ™‚

If I look at it in the right perspective, I can appreciate being married to my alter ego.Β  It’s like what the Bible says in Proverbs 27:17, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”Β  Or in my case, hubby is like sandpaper, sanding down my corners to be a little more well-rounded.Β  I just hope that in the process I am imparting some of my squareness to him so those socks find their way home to the laundry basket someday!Β

Paula Abdul’s “Opposites Attract” is the perfect song for this post.

Amy @ Swag On, Momma!

I do. My hub and I are opposites in many ways. He’s and introvert, I’m an extrovert. He is meticulous and logical, I am creative. He can cook like a pro, and I end up crying when I try to cook! (There’s so much to keep track of simultaneously!!) He has a temper and I keep my cool. We compliment each other. But in our priorities, lifestyle, humor, a lot of hobbies, music, our faith…we are the same. Even with opposites, there’s gotta be some important stuff holding you together, otherwise you’d be so opposite, you’d just pull apart. Those are my thoughts, anyway. πŸ™‚

I laughed really hard at your puking kids in the bed story. How awful!!!! Puke in the eye, crap–that sounds so bad. I am dreading the day when my baby boy gets the flu…hasn’t happened yet! (Probably just jinxed myself…great.)

Hi Amy! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment! πŸ™‚ You and your hubby sound like a great match. And you’re so blessed he can cook!

Haha, glad you got a good laugh out of my miserable experience!

I stopped by your blog – it’s wonderful! I will definitely be following it.
